In winter you can go down-hill skiing at the nearby ski resort of Guzet (45 mins. drive from Pinsou). Alternatively you can cross-country ski at Lake Hers (l’Etang de l’Hers) (also 45 mins). When there has been a lot of snow at Pinsou, you can go tobogganing on the slopes surrounding the gîte (we will lend you the sledges). Snow shoes – both for adults and children – are available for rent at the gîte too.

The homely gîte is ideal for a couple with a baby or 2 young children. The owner’s 3 girls are always ready and willing to play with whoever is around !
Everything you need for a baby is available.
You are welcome to use the gently sloping, child-friendly communal garden with swings and slide. An assortment of games are at your disposal.

Gîte rural Pinsou, en Ariège et au coeur des Pyrénées, parfait pour tout type de tourisme.

Pinsou, in the High Couserans area of the Ariege-Pyrenees, is a small, quiet hamlet – altitude 800 metres – located at the end of a winding road 10 mins. drive from the village of Aleu.

With panoramic views of Mt. Valier, the south-facing gîte is surrounded by fields and woods – a paradise for those who love space, tranquility, and nature at its most unspoilt.

The gîte is self-contained and is an extension of a traditional – but recently restored – Pyrenean farmhouse where John and Sandrine live with their 3 girls (ages 10, 8 and 5). They are a warm and welcoming family, always ready to advise you on the best choice of activities and mountain walks.

Built of stone, wood and lime, the gîte has all the charm of a traditional Pyrenean farmhouse, but with all the comfort and brightness of a purpose-built self-contained holiday apartment.

The centrally-heated gîte is 30 sq. metres (300 sq. ft) in size and consisits of an eating area, double sofa bed, and fully fitted kitchen (with fridge, sink, 2 ring electic hob, electric mini-oven, microwave oven, electric kettle and toaster). There is an en-suite shower room and WC. On the 8 sq. metre (7.5’ x 11’) mezzanine floor level, there is a double bed (140 cm wide and 2 metres long ; 4.5’ x 6.5’) and a TV (with both French and British TV channels). A single bed or baby’s cot can be added on the mezzanine.

The gîte has its own separate entrance which leads out onto a balcony and wooden decked terrace (3 metres x 9.5 metres ; 9.5’ x 30’) with views over the mountains. There are 2 reclining chairs, a wooden picnic table, a parasol and a moveable barbeque – everything you need to make the most of the long summer days, relaxing to the sound of the crickets and cicadas. .

ALSO AVAILABLE FOR YOUR USE

The gently sloping communal garden, the fields surrounding the house, a children’s slide (for the under 7’s), a set of swings, and the quiet road for cycling or just taking a stroll.

St. Girons (30 mins. drive) has a wide choice of supermarkets. The open air market at St. Girons every Saturday morning is not to be missed.

Mountain Walks

From the gîte there is a wide choice of walks of differing degrees of difficulty and duration. Pinsou is on the ‘Tours du Pays’ trekking circuit, and only 30 mins walk away from the village of Cominac, famous for its panoramic views and « bird stepped » gable-end barns.

A 40 min walk away is the summit of Joubac – 1100 metres high and with truely spectacular panoramic views of the mountain ranges.

In the gîte there are many detailed maps and guides showing all the local walks.

And for those wanting a walk with a specific interest, we can put you in contact with experienced guides who will help you indulge in your particular interest while at the same time discovering the area on foot.

There is easy access to the high mountains, but car transport is the best for getting you to the departure points for these walks.

Donkey Treks

40 mins. walk away from the gîte, you can hire one or more donkeys to help you carry your load – and the children – on your trek in the mountains. An experience not to be missed.
