Pinsou: Gîte rural au pied des Pyrénées proche des stations de sky de Guset et des stations d'hiver.

Road Access

Winter road conditions are difficult to predict. In 2006 we only had one week of snow, while in 2005 we had 2 months ! A snow plough clears the road every day so access is assured – but we recommend you use snow chains.

Local Walks

For those who love walking, but not necessarily in the snow of the high mountains, then there is a wide choice of walks to be made in the ‘middle mountains’ – whether from the gîte itself or further afield. Marvel at the wintery landscape and the local archiecture.

Snow Shoe Trekking
( from the gîte or 45 mins drive away – depending on snow cover )

Anybody over the age of 5 can walk with snow shoes. But if you have not used them before, then we suggest you walk on designated paths.

If Pinsou is under snow cover, you can start your trek with snow shoes from the gîte itself. Otherwise the 2 local ski resorts (both 45 mins drive away) provide a choice of walks of differing degrees of difficulty and duration. Snow is usually guaranteed at these resorts between December and March.

The quiet cross-country ski resort of Lake Hers (‘Etang de l’Hers) has taylor-made snow shoe walks. All levels of expertise are catered for. There is a café at the resort.

The mountain pass of Port (Col de Port) is also an ideal location to begin snow shoe treks. And while you are there, have a drink or a meal at the café/ restaurant – Le Sapinière – while sitting on the terrace with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

( around the gîte, or 45 mins drive, depending on snow cover )

We can lend you sledges for your use. When Pinsou is under snow, all the fields surrounding the gîte make ideal runs.

Otherwise, you can go to Lake Hers (l’Etang de l’Hers), or the Port or la Trappe mountain passes where snow is almost always guaranteed.

Downhill Skiing or Snowboarding
( 45 mins drive )

The small ski resort of Guzet is very picturesque and family-friendly. There are a number of restaurants serving simple but wholesome meals. The pistes are short but uncrowded.

Cross Country Skiing
(45 mins.)
